Thoroughbred Training & Spelling Operations Manager
Ballycapall Pre-Training and Spelling Facility– Beaudesert, QLD
Munce Racing is seeking an experienced and highly capable Thoroughbred Training & Spelling Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day management of our Ballycapall property in Beaudesert.
This is a senior, hands-on role suited to a highly organised horseperson with extensive practical experience within the thoroughbred racing industry and a strong background working in professional racing stables and/or spelling and pre-training operations.
The successful applicant will be responsible for the management and supervision of horses in training, rehabilitation, pre-training and spelling, while maintaining high standards of horse welfare, staff management and stable operations across a large-scale property.
Key Responsibilities
• Overall management and supervision of the Ballycapall operation
• Managing up to 30-35 horses in work, including horses in training, rehabilitation and pre-training
• Oversight of 50-60 spelling horses across a 130-acre thoroughbred property
• Daily management of stable routines and horse movement schedules
• Monitoring horse condition, fitness, health and progression
• Assisting with the implementation and execution of training and rehabilitation programs
• Managing and coordinating a team of approximately 6-10 staff
• Staff rostering and workforce coordination in conjunction with management
• Maintaining high standards of horse welfare, presentation and property management
• Ordering feed, equipment, supplements and supplies as required
• Liaising daily with trainers, veterinarians, farriers and other service providers
• Attending race days, trials and veterinary appointments as required
• Accommodating owner visits and maintaining professional communication standards
Essential Requirements
• Extensive hands-on experience within the thoroughbred racing industry
• Previous experience in a senior role within a professional thoroughbred racing stable highly regarded
• Confidence handling thoroughbreds of all ages and temperaments
• Strong horsemanship skills and attention to horse welfare
• Ability to manage large numbers of horses across multiple stages of training and spelling
• Strong leadership, organisational and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and make sound day-to-day operational decisions
• A genuine long-term commitment to the role and the industry
