Opportunities are available at Widden Stud in the Hunter Valley, NSW and Riddles Creek, VIC.
The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of industry best practice, with either international experience or a thorough understanding of the global trends of the thoroughbred industry. Suitable Applicant will have the following:
Duties will include:
1. Overseeing daily care and supervision of bloodstock, which may include mares and foals, stallions and/or yearlings
2. Handling and training of bloodstock including preparing horses for sale
3. Assisting Veterinarians in attending to medical and health needs of bloodstock as well as breeding mares - ultrasound/reproduction examination including assisting in birthing foals and administering medical treatment to foals when required
Essential Criteria
a. A Certificate III or equivalent international qualification, or in the absence of a qualification a minimum of three years professional experience educating and training horses
b. A minimum of at least two years’ experience handling and working with and educating thoroughbred horses
c. Knowledge and experience of horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbreds, including either stallions, yearling sales, or breeding
d. Proven ability to train and educate young horses
e. Oral and written communication skills of a level to take instruction; provide information and advice to others and prepare basic reports
f. Proven ability to work in a team and independently
g. Knowledge of safe operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment
h. Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to the training and preparation of racehorses
Terms of Employment
This is a full-time, long-term position. The suitable applicant will need to commit to a 2-year employment contract.
Salary package $54,000 to $58,000 (commensurate with your qualification, experience, and skill level). Additionally, on-farm accommodation may be available.
