Description

Yarraman Park located at Scone in the Hunter Valley is seeking highly experienced and capable staff to join our team on a full-time basis.

Positions available include:

Horse Trainer/ Breeding –

Foaling Manager

Duties will include:

  • Training broodmares and young stock
  • Monitoring and handling of mares imminently in foal
  • Foaling, including pre- and post-natal care of broodmares and foals
  • Monitoring mare ovulation and pregnancy
  • Early education of foals and young stock
  • Educating and preparing weanlings and yearlings for sale
  • Overseeing daily care and supervision of horses and staff supervision where required
  • Assisting Veterinarians with ultrasound/reproduction examination including assisting in birthing foals and administering medical treatment to foals

Horse Trainer/Breeding - Yearlings

Duties will include:

  • Training and preparing horses for major sales
  • Educating horses to be groomed and accept bridle, head collar, rug etc.
  • Teaching horses to walk, stand and parade correctly
  • Parade and caring for horses at sales
  • Overseeing daily care and supervision of horses
  • Re-educating horses to resolve problems such as biting and kicking

 The salary will be above award – in the range of $65,000 to $75,000 per annum depending upon the level of skill.

Essential Criteria

  1. A Certificate III or equivalent international qualification, or in the absence of a qualification a minimum of three years professional experience educating and training horses
  2. A minimum of two years’ experience handling and working with and educating thoroughbred horses
  3. Knowledge and experience of horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbreds, including foaling, sales and breeding
  4. Proven ability to train and educate young horses
  5. Oral and written communication skills of a level to take instruction; provide information and advice to others and prepare basic reports
  6. Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to the training and preparation of racehorses
  7. For the management positions the suitable applicant will require evidence of managing a team and breeding operation
