Description

The Melbourne Racing Club is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team as an Assistant Racecourse Manager on a Full-Time Permanent basis for our Sportsbet Sandown location.

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading and developing a highly skilled team responsible for maintaining and continuously improving the condition of the racing surface. Your efforts will ensure a safe and fair racing surface and high-quality surrounds are provided for all stakeholders and patrons of the Course.

As well as running elite horse racing at Caulfield, Sportsbet Sandown and Mornington Racecourses, we own 14 pub venues under the Pegasus Leisure Group (PLG).

What will your responsibilities be?

  • Assist the Racecourse Manager in the preparation of facilities pre- and post-race day.
  • Provide expertise in maintaining quality turf surfaces for racing purposes.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of capital works projects relating to tracks and racing facilities.
  • Manage track and racing amenities in conjunction with Racing Victoria.
  • Work closely with internal and external stakeholders including Racing Victoria officials, trainers, jockeys, contractors, and suppliers.
  • Develop and manage annual racecourse maintenance plans.
  • Ensure staff receive appropriate training, induction, and supervision to enable them to complete tasks safely and efficiently and to the required standard.

Skills & Experience

  • Formal qualifications in horticulture and or turf management will be highly regarded.
  • Racing industry experience and knowledge are highly regarded.
  • Knowledge of race day, training track maintenance, and preparation procedures.
  • Certification in chemical storage, handling, and application.
  • Extensive experience managing, maintaining, and operating irrigation systems.
  • Ability to drive and operate required machinery and undertake maintenance.
  • Current manual driver's license required.
