Description

Racing NSW is the statutory body for horse racing in NSW and owns several properties across the state. This landholding is conveniently located in Moss Vale in the Southern Highlands region. It offers a world class standard of elite equine facilities and this property will be used in the pre training of Thoroughbred racehorses.

This property is situated on 97 hectares with grass and sand fibre training tracks and impeccably manicured grounds throughout. We are looking for an experienced young horse educator who has the desire to develop their management skills and who wishes to utilise an opportunity to work with dedicated horse people under the guidance of one of Australia’s most successful early educators.

The position is available for a Young Horse Rider who wishes expand their management skills to be mentored and trained to manage a barn of horses and a team of people. This will be in our early education - pre training barn under the guidance and tutelage of the senior management staff.

The applicant must be a capable rider and have extensive knowledge and experience of training young TB’s. This department will be dedicated to juveniles straight for the breakers and horses that require a more tailed approach to training as well as first preparation Pre-Trainers.

The applicant will be responsible for:

  • Riding and educating juvenile thoroughbreds
  • Leading a select team with confidence ensuring high standards are implemented
  • General day to day management of the barn
  • Complementing existing management team
  • Ensuring the farm culture is upheld within the department
  • Assisting with general property tasks as required
  • General ad hoc tasks as required

With the guidance and tutelage of senior management:

  • Documenting for precise and informative reporting
  • Planning and implementing work programs
  • Tailoring balanced nutrition plans
  • Managing stable hands and trackwork riders
  • Preparation of work programs and rider allocation
  • Management of equine health to include communicating with farriers, dentists, and vets to ensure welfare is of the highest standard

The successful applicant will have the below experience and attributes: -

  • Proven riding ability and knowledge of juvenile education
  • A thirst for knowledge and the desire to grown within the role
  • Experience in Equine health and confidence in the administration of medications
  • A ‘can do’ attitude, a team player and determination to get results
  • Confidence to lead a team and the willingness to learn as well as the passion to educate junior staff
