Blue Gum Farm located in the Euroa VIC is currently accepting applications for the role of Veterinary Nurse/Technician – thoroughbred horse breeding. We are looking for a motivated, determined & experienced individual for full-time employment.
The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of industry best practice, with either international experience or a thorough understanding of the global trends of the thoroughbred industry.
Duties will include:
Responsibility for assisting the Bloodstock/Stud Manager and Veterinarians overseeing aspects of bloodstock care, including:
a. Administering medical treatment to foals as well as attending to medical and health needs of mares as required
b. Managing quarantine procedures
c. Managing and on-call (including nights) for complex foaling’s
d. Ensuring mares are lactating and foals are suckling up to weaning stage
e. Providing post-natal care of broodmares and foals
f. Overseeing daily care and supervision of nonpregnant and pregnant mares and their foals
g. Monitoring mare pregnancies
h. Ensuring feeding and nutritional requirements of horses are met daily
i. Monitoring, rearing, and educating weanlings
j. Undertaking Laboratory work, haematology, serum biochemistry, SAA analysis, IgG analysis, cytology, faecal analysis etc.
k. Assisting Veterinarian with pregnancy scans and complete certificates
l. Keeping up to date records for all horse health, foaling and breeding related activities
m. Coordinating and assisting Veterinarians with diagnostic procedure
n. During the yearling season, supervising the training and preparation of horses for major sales including teaching horses to walk, and parade etc.
Terms of Employment-The salary for this position will be above award and based on your skills and experience in the range of (AUD) $54,000-$55,000 per annum plus compulsory superannuation. Additionally, on-farm accommodation may be available.
