Description

Racing NSW is the statutory regulator of thoroughbred racing in New South Wales, responsible for the control, supervision and regulation of racing throughout the State.

Racing NSW Stipendiary Stewards are recognised nationally and internationally for their role in safeguarding the integrity of racing. Stewards perform critical regulatory functions, including race day adjudication, investigation of breaches of the Rules of Racing, evidence assessment and enforcement decision-making.

An opportunity now exists for a highly motivated individual to undertake a Stipendiary Steward Traineeship within the Racing NSW Stewards Department.

This structured traineeship provides comprehensive on-the-job and formal training in:

  • Race day stewarding and adjudication
  • Investigative processes and evidence assessment
  • Application and interpretation of the Rules of Racing
  • Regulatory decision-making
  • Report writing and preparation of formal findings

The successful applicant will work alongside experienced Stipendiary Stewards and progressively assume responsibility within a professional regulatory environment.

This traineeship offers entry into one of the world’s leading stewarding and integrity programs, providing a clear pathway to a career in racing regulation. You will join a professional team committed to maintaining the integrity, safety and reputation of thoroughbred racing in New South Wales.

We are seeking candidates who demonstrate:

  • Strong analytical and decision-making ability
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Sound judgement and high ethical standards
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure
  • The confidence to deal professionally with industry participants
  • The ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • A current and valid driver’s licence

A genuine interest in horse racing is essential. Knowledge of the thoroughbred racing industry and the Rules of Racing is desirable but not mandatory.

Due to the operational nature of the role, applicants must be prepared to work on a five-day-out-of-seven roster and attend metropolitan and provincial racecourses throughout NSW.

Shortlisted applicants will undergo a probity assessment. The provision of disclosure statements and adherence to the Racing NSW Code of Conduct for Stipendiary Stewards are mandatory requirements of the role.

Interested applicants should provide a covering letter outlining their relevant practical experience, together with a resume, by email to Tom Moxon at tmoxon@racingnsw.com.au.
