POSITION – SPELLING MANAGER – AQUIS FARM OPERATIONS (CANUNGRA QLD)

As Spelling Manager, you will responsible for the health and welfare of all spelling racehorses at Aquis Farm’s Canungra property and as such will be highly skilled in all aspects of the Farm’s racehorse spelling business.  You will be expected to drive the business and work with the Racing Division to ensure success.  You will be required to optimise the farm performance, in accordance with company policy.

Administration & Quality Compliance – Keep up to date with administrative and reporting responsibilities required of the position and job duties; comply with company policies and auditing requirements at all times.

Knowledge, Skills & Experience – Have a proven ability in the racehorse spelling farm management field in keeping with the size and complexity of this position.  Have the necessary planning and organisational skills to achieve targets and carry out Company policies as applicable to the property. Be able to provide role clarity and ensure teamwork amongst staff. Be self-motivated and able to communicate effectively at all levels within the Company.  Accept the role as a Spelling Manager within a corporate operation and work actively as a team member in developing and achieving Company objectives.

General Duties & Responsibilities – Develop, review and implement animal health programs to maintain good health with racehorses under your care.  Ensure all records are maintained efficiently and correctly.  Liaise with key outside suppliers (eg Vets, Farriers, Dentists, Transport Companies, Feed Merchants). Supervise day to day activity, schedule tasks/activities that need to be undertaken. Daily care and management of Spellers. Confident with administering equine drugs & understanding the rules of Australian racing.  Understanding and evaluation of the horse’s health and check for injuries. Ensuring all horses are well fed and groomed. Monitor each horse’s nutritional needs and diet, recording eating habits.

Essential Skills – Minimum 5years experience within the Thoroughbred Industry.  Experience handling young horses. Driving trucks is also essential due to the size of our operation. Applicants that do not yet possess Spelling Manager experience but have shown a willingness to learn and keen work ethic in previous roles, are also encouraged to apply.
