Description

Hands-on hybrid role with room to grow

Jason Warren Racing is offering an opportunity for the right person to join our team in a senior stable role, with the potential to grow into a Training Assistant position, or for someone with the right experience, to step straight into a Training Assistant role from the outset.

This is a varied, hands-on hybrid role across both of our properties — our on-track base at Mornington and our private training facility, Karasi Park in Bass.

We are looking for someone with strong leadership ability, horsemanship, professionalism, and attention to detail. The ideal candidate will be ambitious, present well, take pride in their work, and be capable of representing the stable to a high standard.

An interest in, or experience with, form analysis, nominations, horse placement, and race planning is highly regarded. Just as importantly, this role requires someone who is confident being hands-on in the day-to-day running of a busy racing stable.

Depending on experience, the role may include involvement in:

  • representing the stable on race days
  • taking horses to the races
  • float driving
  • saddling and strapping
  • owner and horse updates
  • form analysis, nominations, race planning and placement
  • helping manage daily operations across both properties
  • assisting with treatments and daily horse monitoring
  • supporting, mentoring and overseeing staff
  • general racing and operational support across the business

Racing is a seven-day-a-week industry, so it is important that applicants understand the commitment and flexibility the role requires. That said, while our operation runs seven days a week, we do not expect one person to work seven days. Weekend availability will often be important, but time off during the week will be arranged to compensate.

We also do not operate around the traditional extreme stable hours. While the role is fast-paced and hands-on, our mornings generally begin from around 6am, with later starts again at our private training facility.

We understand that the right applicant may not come with strength in every single area from day one. Someone may already have excellent horsemanship, leadership skills, race-day ability and presentation, while needing support in an area such as form or placement. We are open to that, provided the right foundations are there.

A truck or float licence is preferred, but not essential.

This is a great opportunity for someone wanting to take the next step in their career within a progressive and growing racing operation.

Above-award remuneration will be offered, with salary dependent on experience.

If you are capable, hardworking, professional and passionate about racing, we would love to hear from you.
