Thoroughbred Racing NT (TRNT), based in Darwin, Northern Territory, has a full-time position for a Jockey
$73,150 plus superannuation per annum base salary
Duties include:
• Ride horses in trackwork, race trials and races in Northern Territory
• Receive instructions from Trainers
• Judge the abilities of horses and best tactics/gear to use to win races
• Discuss performance of horses and advise of issues or possible gear changes with Trainers
• Report anything that may have affected the horse's performance in a race or training to Trainers, Stewards and others as required
• Study races to improve performance and to determine the best way to ride certain horses, after discussion with Trainers
• Properly maintain riding equipment, including saddles and boots
• Adhere to the Australian Rules of Racing and NT Local Rules which govern the racing industry
• Maintain a high degree of expertise in horse riding
• Maintain the required standard of fitness
• Some Club and stable work may be required
Skills required:
• Relevant formal Australian qualification Cert IV in Racing (Jockey), or overseas equivalent and 2 years full-time or equivalent experience, or at least 3 years equivalent experience
• Able to be licensed in Northern Territory
