Gilgai Farm Pty Ltd, located in Nagambie VIC, is seeking applications for the following
Horse Trainer/Breeding – Duties will include:
- Overseeing daily care and supervision of horses
- Training and preparing young stock and mares for sale
- Educating yearlings including teaching them to walk, stand and parade
- Monitoring mare ovulation and pregnancy
- Foaling mares and early education of foals
- Assisting Veterinarians with ultrasound/reproduction examination including assisting in birthing foals and administering medical treatment to foals.
The salary will be above award – in the range of $75,000 to $90,000 per annum depending upon the skill set and level of responsibility.
Essential Criteria
- A Certificate III or equivalent international qualification, or in the absence of a qualification a minimum of three years professional experience educating and training horses
- A minimum of two years’ experience handling and working with and educating thoroughbred horses
- Knowledge and experience of horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbreds, including mares and yearlings
- Proven ability to train and educate young horses
- The suitable applicant will require evidence of managing a small team during the season
- Oral and written communication skills are sufficient to provide information and advice to others and prepare reports
- Knowledge of safe operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment
- Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to the training and preparation of horses
