Dan O’Sullivan Racing is currently seeking a highly experienced, capable, and hands on person to assist Dan with the day-to-day running our Ballarat thoroughbred racing stable.
Essential Skills:
- Knowledge and experience of horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbred racing
- Proven ability to train and educate horses
- Oral and written communication skills of a level to take instruction and provide information and/or instruction
- Proven leadership, communication and problem solving skills
- Knowledge of safe operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment
- Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to the training and preparation of racehorses
Key Responsibilies:
- Horse Handling: confidently handle, saddle, educate and improve manners of inexperienced horses.
- Horse welfare & presentation: ensuring horses are fed and groomed to the highest standard. Maintain individual horse care plans. Ensuring boxes/yards and paddock are cleaned to the highest standard.
- Health & compliance: daily trot-ups and soundness checks; record treatments; liaise with vets and farriers; ensure WHS protocols and stable regulations are followed.
- Assist trainer to coordinate track work, swimming, treadmill and rehab; manage race day gear; organise race-day staffing and float logistics.
- Records & communication: keep accurate work, medication and movement records; provide clear updates to the trainer on any issues.
- Race-day attendance: present horses professionally; communicate with owners, officials and media as required.
Salary:

Applicants must be eligible to work in Australia and comply with Racing Victoria and WHS policies.
Hours/Roster:
Rotating 7 day roster with rotating Sundays. Early morning starts/split shifts.
