About the Toowoomba Turf Club (TTC) and Clifford Park Racecourse

The Toowoomba Turf Club Inc. owns and operates Clifford Park Racecourse on Hursley Road in Toowoomba. Clifford Park Racecourse is the largest racing centre on the Darling Downs conducting near weekly race meetings more than 45 race meetings per annum.  The TTC operates this renowned horse racing facility in addition to one of Queensland’s largest provincial training centres (the Clifford Park Training Centre) on-site. Clifford Park Racecourse has developed and maintains a reputation as the premier destination for functions and events in the region.

The Role of Chief Executive Officer

Reporting to the Board, leading a highly experienced and capable team, this challenging and complex leadership role encompasses all the following aspects:

  • Major racing & training operations at Clifford Park Racecourse
  • Large functions & events business
  • Responsible for governance, legal, financial, commercial & strategy

You will be responsible for the development & achievement of the Club’s strategic plan. With a key focus on building on an already strong operation you will possess the skills, experience & attributes to further grow the horse racing, training & hospitality footprint and the business success of the Toowoomba Turf Club. You will be able to demonstrate a strong track record in leadership, managing multiple stakeholders and in delivering high levels of members & customer service facilities and service offerings. Experience in industries at scale that represent a large & diverse workforce that includes racing, hospitality and wagering. You will also demonstrate achievements in community brand development and high-performance workplace culture.

To be successful in this role you will have:

  • Minimum 5 year’s experience in a race club or venue operations environment,
  • Strong understanding of venue or related procedure system management,
  • Ability to develop rapport with stakeholders and contractors, as well as build and sustain relationships,
  • Demonstrated ability to source and develop successful business partnerships with clients and stakeholders,
  • Evaluate operational outcomes and deliver recommendations,
  • Strong verbal communications skills and the ability to negotiate agreements,
  • Ability to manage large predominantly causal workforce
  • Racing industry knowledge and experience desirable but not essential.

This position is a full-time salaried role working 40 hours per week.  Saturday and weekend work is essential (on race days). Salary by negotiation and commensurate with relevant experience.
