Description

Matthew C. Smith Racing is currently seeking highly experienced and capable staff to join our stable at Warwick Farm. The position is full-time 38Hrs with early morning starts, and weekend work is required on a roster rotation.

the applicant must be able to educate our young horses on the ground whilst managing a small team of horses and staff under the direction of the head foreperson.

The salary for this position will be above award – in the range of $54,000 to $58,000 per annum depending upon the level of skill. Essential Skills: All applicants must have a minimum of 3 year full time professional experience in the role and be able to prove they are reliable workers with excellent horsemanship skills. In addition the following will be required: Demonstrated knowledge and proven experience in horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbred racing Proven ability to train and educate young horses A vocational level of English to be able to communicate in the work place and take instruction Desirable, Training horses to obey natural and artificial aids, resolving horse problems lie Shying/spooking/balking/bolting, Schooling Horses over jumps, Barrier and Jump Out education, Occasional Strapping duties, Tacking up/Bathing/Grooming Duties, Check Stable for hazards whilst mucking out and box duties, Treat Swelling and or minor injuries, Maintain Horse condition/health & work records, Form Trackwork Schedules and training Program.
