About this Role

Reporting to the Racecourse Manager, the Track Maintenance Operator is responsible for presenting and maintaining tracks, grounds and buildings to high standards as specified by Perth Racing. This role is a permanent full time position which involves weekend raceday work and public holiday work. Safety in the operations of this position by the individual and towards others is paramount at all times.

Primary Duties

  • Maintain tracks for Racing and Training by watering grass tracks, cutting grass and sweeping up clippings, rolling track, shifting moveable rail as required, fertilising and maintaining gardens and grounds
  • Sweep and hose out horse stalls
  • Maintain horse swimming pool
  • Set up furniture & equipment for race days & non race day functions as per function requirements
  • High pressure clean outside buildings
  • Drive horse float when required

To be successful in this role you will have

  • Fitness to handle heavy loads/duties is essential – lift 15 kg. This is a position which has a high demand of physical exertion, frequent heavy lifting, sweeping, use of sledge hammers, use of jack hammer for moving of rails, moving of machinery on and off of tractors, long periods of standing/walking, carrying furniture. The incumbent is exposed to all elements of the weather
  • Proven experience in using a limited range of tools such as drills, brush cutters, vacuum’s, blowers etc.
  • Current WA C class driver’s licence is essential
  • Previous experience in a physical job working in outside elements
  • Truck licence is desirable
  • First aid qualification is desirable
  • Manual handling certificate is desirable
  • Grounds maintenance qualification is desirable
  • Horse skills, knowledge and experience is desirable
