The Cairns Jockey Club conducts 18 race meetings, including the major Red Beret Hotel Cairns Cup Carnival.

The Track and Facilities Manager is responsible for the presentation, maintenance and continuous improvement of the racing and training surfaces, facilities and surrounds at the Cairns Jockey Club in order to provide for a safe, attractive environment for all stakeholders, race day patrons and visitors in line with Racing QLD standards.

Reporting to the General Manager, the key duties will include:

  • Preparation of grass track for racing and sand training tracks.
  • Management of annual racecourse maintenance plan that details programs for track watering, fertilizer programs, mowing and general building repair and maintenance requirements.
  • Management of all facilities including Stables and track regulations.
  • Management and presentation of all racecourse grounds and gardens to showcase the venue for race days and functions.
  • Ensure that all club facilities including grandstand, betting ring and horse stalls are attractively and professionally presented at all times.
  • Ensure all plant and equipment are maintained, serviced and repaired and used in accordance with OH&S policy requirements.
  • Race day requirements including set up of facilities and maintenance issues that may arise.
  • Management and supervision of all track and grounds contractors and employees.
  • Management of budget in consultation with the General Manager.

The successful candidate will have qualifications in an appropriate turf management discipline and considerable professional experience preferably in thoroughbred racing.  Knowledge of all turf maintenance requirements and ability to operate required machinery and attend to general maintenance of buildings and facilities is required.

The remuneration package is negotiable dependent on qualifications and experience.
