Description

Mount Hallowell Stud is a boutique thoroughbred horse stud, situated in the picturesque town of Denmark in the Great Southern Region of Western Australia.

The property is the idyllic horse location and has been developed to the highest standards to accommodate breeding, agistment of resting racehorses and the education of horses. The Stud cares for c.50 horses where we take a holistic approach to nurturing our horses for their thoroughbred racing career.

Considerable investment in our racing and breeding stock has taken place over the years which we continue to enhance via select purchases at major sales in Australia and abroad, adding to our east coast stallion ownership interests.

The Stud Manager position offered requires the services of a true horseman with extensive thoroughbred experience who is looking to work at an elite level.

Reporting to the Owner you will be empowered to nurture our horses to reach their optimum assuming responsibility for:

  • Ensuring safe working practices at the stud all times;
  • Overseeing the well-being of horses including nutrition planning, feeding, education, grooming, early diagnosis and remedy of issues;
  • Administering basic treatments and assisting vet, farrier and dentist as required;
  • Caring for pregnant mares and their foals including foaling down pregnant mares;
  • Handling foals/yearlings and ongoing education including sales preparation of our juvenile horses;
  • Liaising with horse trainers and other industry participants including attending sales events;
  • Floating and transporting horses as required;
  • Maintenance and upkeep of paddocks, fencing, livestock & property.
  • Managing a small team and timely reporting to a professional standard.

This is a hands-on role which is supported by a farmhand plus additional part time support staff during yearling preparations.

The successful candidate will possess:

  • An uncompromised commitment to adhere to safe working practices at all times;
  • Extensive thoroughbred knowledge with a minimum 10 years experience in a professional thoroughbred environment and 3 year’s experience in a similar management role;
  • Good health and physically fit to undertake horse handling and farm work;
  • Highly motivated with a pro-active can-do attitude and desire to achieve exceptional results;
  • Excellent communication, time management, attention to detail and organisational skills;
  • Computer literate with MS office suite;
