We are searching for an experienced full time Stable Hand/Rider to be based at our Carbine Lodge operation located at Flemington Racecourse, in Melbourne.
The role also involves riding routine track work riding, experience is essential as you may be required to ride both young and experienced racehorses.
We are seeking a passionate, reliable and hard-working person whose love and admiration for horses is as great as ours. You must be flexible, have a positive attitude, good work ethic and be willing to go above and beyond in your role.
Tasks include:
- Routine trackwork riding including riding pace work and gallops in accordance with instruction. Evaluate and report performance identifying any concerns.
- General day-to-day care of the horses including, mucking out, rugging, feeding, trot ups and grooming.
- Routine health checks, monitoring basic health and welfare of horses, recognising signs of injury and reporting concerns.
- Preparation of horses and gear for race meetings and trials attendance.
Essential:
- High level riding skills and a working knowledge of pacework (working at different speeds).
- Sound horse handling skills, with experience and confidence handling thoroughbreds in full training.
- Understanding of horse health care and welfare requirements, with prior experience in providing direct daily care.
- Understanding of the thoroughbred racing industry.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to take and follow instructions.
