Harness Racing SA (HRSA) is the governing body for harness racing in South Australia. HRSA is responsible for regulating, developing, and promoting harness racing throughout the state.

Opportunity

HRSA has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Risk and Compliance Officer to join the Integrity Department.

About the Role

To keep records and proactively and reactively react to compliance issues affecting HRSA and its operations. To conduct track, stable and property inspections ensuring industry participants are aware of their responsibilities and meet both HRSA and other legislative requirements.

Essential requirements

  • Demonstrated experience in an integrity role, or relevant regulatory and/or investigative experience
  • Possess an understanding of Administrative Law
  • Current valid Driver’s License
  • Willingness to travel and work evenings, weekend, and public holidays under shift provisions
  • Willingness and capacity to work with animals

Key accountabilities

  • Work within a team of stewards across the state to help deliver high quality stewarding and officiating
  • Assist the development, implementation and ongoing evaluation of standards, systems and protocols across harness racing including racing meetings, trials, harness identification activities, and animal welfare procedures to ensure rules and regulations are adhered to across the industry
  • Assist in the disciplinary process including conducting investigations and inspections in the region to ensure adherence to policies and processes and all legislative obligations are met
  • Reporting to the Chair of Stewards, you will play a pivotal role in assisting with the integrity and policing of our harness racing industry
  • Assist to further develop and implement processes relating to integrity matters to ensure the image of harness racing across SA is upheld
  • Assist in the implementation of effective systems and processes for the sampling of standardbred horses for the purpose of drug/prohibited substance detection, to ensure consistency with evidentiary requirements throughout the swabbing process
  • Sit as a member of the HRSA Licencing Committee proving advice to the HRSA Board

Key skills, experience, qualifications, and attributes. The successful applicant will demonstrate the following skills/experience/qualifications/attributes:

  • Exemplary communication skills and the ability to interface with a diverse range of industry participants
  • Well-developed time management, self-management, and organisational skills
  • Advanced perceptive and observational skills
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to consult and resolve conflict.
  • Sound computer literacy skills including Microsoft Office
  • The ability to accept and adapt to change, in addition to being able to work autonomously or as part of a team
  • Ability to maintain the highest levels of integrity and confidentiality
  • Whilst the appointee is expected to attend race meetings as rostered, the Authority is open to an applicant whose availability might be limited to less than 5 days per week
  • Short listed applicants will be required to undergo a probity check

Remuneration: The successful applicant will be provided a remuneration package commensurate to their relevant experience.
