Horse Trainer/Breeding

Coolmore Stud, located in the Hunter Valley of NSW, is seeking applications for the following full-time position:

Horse Trainer/Breeding – Duties will include:

1. Overseeing daily care and supervision of bloodstock, which may include mares and foals, stallions and/or yearlings
2. Handling and training of bloodstock
3. Assisting Veterinarians in attending to medical and health needs of bloodstock as well as breeding mares - ultrasound/reproduction examination including assisting in birthing foals and administering medical treatment to foals when required
4. Training and preparing young stock for sale and attending sales when required.

Essential Criteria

1. A Certificate III or equivalent International qualification, or in the absence of a qualification a minimum of three years professional experience educating and training horses
2. A minimum of at least two years’ experience handling and working with and educating thoroughbred horses
3. Knowledge and experience of horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbreds, including stallions, yearling sales or breeding
4. Proven ability to train and educate young horses
5. Oral and written communication skills of a level to take instruction; provide information and advice to others and prepare basic reports
6. Proven ability to work in a team and independently
7. Knowledge of safe operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment
8. Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to the training and preparation of racehorses.

The salary will be above award and based on your skills and experience in the range of $54,000 to $60,000.  Accommodation may also be offered on the farm at Jerrys Plains NSW.
