Horse Trainer

Godolphin Australia is currently seeking highly experienced and capable staff to join our stables and stud farms. Positions are available at Carbine Lodge, Flemington VIC and Crown Lodge, Warwick Farm, NSW.

• Young Horse Trainer/Rider - able to ride 8 -10 horses per morning (with particular emphasis on riding pace/timed work and jump outs)
• Horse Trainer/2nd Foreperson – able to educate our horses on the ground, plus responsibility for a team and barn or horses.

The salary will be above award – in the range of $55,000.00 to $60,000.00 per annum depending upon the location and level of responsibility.  All positions are full-time.

Essential Skills:

A Certificate III or equivalent International qualification, or in the absence of a qualification a minimum of three years professional experience educating and training horses.

In addition, the following will be required:

• Knowledge and experience of horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbred racing
• Proven ability to train and educate young horses
• Proven as reliable workers, with excellent horsemanship skills
• Oral and written communication skills of a level to take instruction and provide information
• Ability to work in a team and independently (or proven management experience if the position is for a foreperson role)
• Knowledge of safe operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment
• Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to the training and preparation of racehorses

Desirable Qualification:

• A Certificate III or equivalent International qualification

The successful applicant must be able to demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of industry best practice, with either international experience or a thorough understanding of the global trends of the thoroughbred industry.
