Horse Trainer

Coolmore Stud, located in the Hunter Valley of NSW, is seeking applications for the following full-time positions:

Horse Trainer/Area Manager – Duties will include:

  • Manage equine biosecurity and infection control
  • Manage people performance
  • Ensure a safe workplace
  • Plan and implement an enterprise horse training and breeding strategy
  • Manage reproductive outcomes of stallions and mares

 Horse Trainer/Stallion Manager – Duties will include:

  • Overseeing daily care and supervision of stallions
  • Handling and training stallions in the breeding shed
  • Handling and training stallions for parades and other stud promotion
  • Assisting Veterinarians in attending to medical and health needs of stallions as required

 Horse Trainer/Breeding – Duties will include:

  • Overseeing daily care and supervision of horses
  • Assisting Veterinarians with ultrasound/reproduction examination including assisting in birthing foals and administering medical treatment to foals
  • Preparing young stock for sale
  • Monitoring mare ovulation and pregnancy
  • Assisting Veterinarians in attending to medical and health needs of horses as required

Horse Trainer/Foaling - Duties will include:

  • Monitoring and handling of mares imminently in foal
  • Foaling, including pre- and post-natal care of broodmares and foals
  • Assisting Veterinarians with ultrasound/reproduction examination and administering medical treatment to foals
  • Monitoring mare ovulation and pregnancy
  • Early education of foals

Essential Criteria

  1. A Certificate III or equivalent international qualification, or in the absence of a qualification a minimum of three years professional experience educating and training horses
  2. A minimum of two years’ experience handling and working with and educating thoroughbred horses
  3. Knowledge and experience of horse training and handling methods specific to thoroughbreds, including stallions, sales or breeding
  4. Proven ability to train and educate young horses
  5. Oral and written communication skills of a level to take instruction; provide information and advice to others and prepare basic reports
  6. Knowledge of safe operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment
  7. Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to the training and preparation of racehorses
  8. For the management positions the suitable applicant will require extensive evidence of managing a team and breeding operation

The salary for all positions will be above award and based on your skills and experience in the range of $54,200 to above $100,000.  Accommodation may also be offered on the farm at Jerrys Plains NSW.
