Job Description – Farmer (Mixed Crop/Pasture and Livestock Farming)

 

Location: Burdekin, Queensland

 

Newhaven Park is located on 10,500 acres of rolling hills and river flats in the Boorowa NSW region. Newhaven Park is a horse breeding farm, with cattle and sheep as well as pasture and cropping (primary hay).

 

Your role will include:

  • Developing and implementing weekly and daily plans with the employer
  • Ensuring farm operations are completed on a timely basis and within budgets
  • Periodic review and analysis of the farm performance with the employer
  • Monitoring soil moisture levels and rainfall forecasts to ensure timely and effective

seeding operations after considering economic and physical capabilities

  • Inspecting crops, pasture, gardens and trees to identify weeds and/or pests
  • Assessing methods of sowing, fertilising, spraying, harvesting and processing of crops and pastures
  • Providing pasture and fodder to maintain appropriate nutritional levels to livestock and to optimise feeding opportunities
  • Collecting and collating data for monitoring to compare returns – based on season forecast
  • Inspecting livestock for health and pasture availability
  • Gauging the nutritional benefits & weight gain from dietary formulations including pastures and supplementary feeding of livestock
  • Directing and overseeing general activities such as fertilising, and pest and weed control
  • Overseeing chemical and additive use and handling for crop and livestock husbandry
  • Hands on involvement in all day-to-day operations including planting, harvesting, cultivation and irrigation to ensure productivity and efficiency
  • Ensuring the proper management, care, upkeep and maintenance of all agricultural machinery, farm vehicles and fences as well as water supply systems (bores) and company owned assets to an acceptable standard
  • Maintaining required farming records, reporting to the employer and ensuring record keeping obligations are met
  • Managing staff and contractors including allocating leave request and WHS

 

Skills required to fill the role:

  • Ability to complete maintenance and servicing of machinery as required
  • HR Licence - preferred
  • Sound mechanical ability including welding and fabrication
  • Ability to work independently, methodically and cohesively with others
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to report clearly
  • Understanding of safe work practices, with chemcert and first aid an advantage

 

Salary: Will be commensurate with experience in the range of $55,000 to $60,000 per annum.

  • Diploma qualification (Preferred)
  • relevant: 5 years (Preferred)

 

Licence:

  • HR or HC or MC (Preferred)
