The Role

  • Initiate and implement daily/weekly plans with employer
  • Ongoing review of farm performance with employer
  • Ensuring farm operations are completed on a timely basis
  • Implementing, in consultation with employer, seeding, spraying, harvesting and fertilising programs working in with weather & economic aspects.
  • Inspecting crops, pasture, gardens and trees to identify weeds and/or pests
  • Feeding out pasture and fodder appropriately to maintain nutritional levels to livestock and to optimise feed utilisation
  • Inspecting livestock for health and managing feed budget
  • Pest and weed control in pastures, gardens and verges
  • Appropriate chemical and additive application for crop and livestock husbandry
  • Hands on involvement on day-to-day operations, maintenance and capital works
  • Ensuring the proper use, care, and maintenance of all agricultural machinery, farm vehicles, fences and gates as well as water supply systems (bores, windmills) and general farm assets to an acceptable standard
  • Maintaining complete and accurate farm and stud records, reporting to employer and ensuring record keeping obligations are met

Skills Required

  • Ability to complete maintenance and servicing of machinery as required
  • Sound mechanical ability including welding and fabrication
  • Ability to work independently, methodically and with others
  • Excellent communication skills; the ability to report clearly and take instructions
  • Excellent care and handling of cattle, including breeding
  • Excellent care and handling of horses(candidates without horse experience are still encouraged to apply)
  • Ability to work flexibly, including full availability during seeding/spraying/harvesting and some weekends.
  • A positive and friendly manner
  • Good work ethic, integrity
  • HR Licence – preferred
  • First Aid and Chemical Cert - advantage

 

Job Type: Full Time

Salary:  $50,000 - $60, 000 commensurate with ability

Language: English

Experience: 5yrs in relevant field

Licence: HR or HC or MC
