About the business and the role

If you are self-motivated, love the outdoors and have the ability and experience to successfully manage a farm with spelling Thoroughbreds, Mares, Yearlings and Weanlings on a privately owned picturesque property in the Yarra Valley, then look no further.  On the farm, we breed and race thoroughbred horses and own an award-winning winery.

Job tasks and responsibilities

We are currently seeking an experienced Thoroughbred Manager.  The successful candidate will be responsible for the day-to-day management and operation of the property and its horses, located in the Yarra Glen/Dixon's Creek area.  The main duties and responsibilities will include:

  • All aspects of horse management, including Yearlings and Weanlings
  • Managing Mares and Yearlings
  • Feeding, working and caring for horses
  • Monitoring animal health and welfare and if required, treatments
  • Ability to manage a feeding program for Livestock - Thoroughbreds, Mares, Yearlings, Weanlings
  • Ability to handle, lead and educate Yearlings

Skills and experience

To be successful in this role, the following skills are highly desirable:

  • 5-10 years' experience working with Thoroughbred horses will be highly regarded
  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Abilty to work independently and unsupervised
  • Suitable for those with previous experience working in a Stud or a previous Horse Trainer looking for a new direction

Job benefits and perks

The position will report directly to the Owner.  This is a diverse and hands-on full time role with weekend work required from time to time on a rotational roster.
