Crookwell (near Goulburn)

Racing NSW is the statutory body for horse racing in NSW and owns a number of properties across the state as part of its Equine Welfare Program. Our Crookwell property is used for retraining and rehoming thoroughbred horses after their racing careers and includes 300 acres of paddocks and equine infrastructure.

The Equine Welfare Stablehand and Retrainer will be responsible for:

- Feeding of horses in the equine welfare program

- General care of horses in the equine welfare program working with farriers, dentists and vets to ensure welfare is of the highest standard

- Groundwork and retraining of horses in the equine welfare program

- Assisting with general horse and stabling tasks

- Assisting with general property tasks as required

- General ad hoc tasks as required

The successful applicant must have the below experience and attributes:

- A ‘can do’ attitude and determination to get results

- Confidence in handling thoroughbreds

- Ability to work on and off the ground with green horses.

- Understand the suitability and identify horses for sale

- Ability to work as part of a team

- Willingness to undertake all tasks from cleaning out stables to saddling up/lunging/riding horses

- Drivers license and own vehicle

The successful applicant will also ideally have the following:

- Equestrian/Racing background is preferred

- Confidence and ability to ride Thoroughbred horses to give them the foundation of flatwork & dressage

- Hold an MR licence for operation of horse transport truck
