Oxley Island (near Taree)
Racing NSW is the statutory body for horse racing in NSW and owns a number of properties across the state as part of its Equine Welfare Program. Our Oxley Island property is used for retraining and rehoming thoroughbred horses after their racing careers and includes 80 acres of paddocks and equine infrastructure.
The Equine Welfare Retrainer & Assistant Manager will be responsible for:
- Feeding of horses in the equine welfare program
- General care of horses in the equine welfare program working with farriers, equine dentists and vets to ensure welfare is of the highest standard
- Groundwork and retraining of horses in the equine welfare program
- Assisting with general horse and stabling tasks
- Assisting with general property tasks as required
- Assisting the Property Manager with direction and management of staff
- General ad hoc tasks as required
The successful applicant must have the below experience and attributes:
- A ‘can do’ attitude and determination to get results
- Confidence in handling thoroughbreds
- Ability to work on and off the ground with green horses.
- Understand the suitability and identify horses for sale
- Ability to work as part of a team
- Ability to mentor and direct staff
- Willingness to undertake all tasks from cleaning out stables to saddling up/lunging/riding horses
- Drivers license and own vehicle
The successful applicant will also ideally have the following:
- Equestrian/Racing background is preferred
- Confidence and ability to ride Thoroughbred horses to give them the foundation of flatwork & dressage
- First Aid Certificate
- Hold an MR licence for operation of horse transport truck
