Yulong Investments is seeking a highly motivated and adaptive individual to join our growing team as a second full-time Equine Veterinarian. Yulong Investments is comprised of three farms all of which are an easy drive to Melbourne. The breeding side of the operation, Yulong Stud and Yulong Farm, are located in the beautiful wine region of Nagambie. Whilst the spelling farm, Yulong Park, located in Bayles, is a short drive to the Mornington Peninsula. Yulong Investments is a rapidly expanding operation which currently has 250 broodmares, 170 foals, five stallions and over 100 horses in training.
The successful candidate will have a solid skill set and knowledge base in equine reproduction, with at least two or more seasons of reproductive work under their belt. The ideal candidate will have prior experience with emergency stud work, foal medicine, yearling endoscopy, and radiography as well as racehorse lameness. However, a veterinarian with less experience in the latter areas will still be considered as mentorship from the senior stud veterinarian will be available. A candidate who has completed an equine internship will be given preference.
The chosen candidate will be joining an established veterinary practice with another full-time veterinarian and highly experienced veterinary nurse. Yulong’s veterinary facilities include a full lab, ultrasound, digital radiograph, and video endoscope.
Duties will include:
· Reproduction management of the broodmare band
· Breeding and reproduction management of our stallions
· Post foaling care for broodmares
· Providing emergency care in and out of the breeding season
· Post foaling care of all newborn foals including intensive care
· Weanling / Yearlings sale x-rays and scoping
· Post-surgery management of all our horses
· Inspection of racehorses at trainers stable pre- and post-race
Essential Requirements
· Veterinary Degree
· Registration with Victoria Veterinary Board
· A minimum of two years’ experience of equine reproduction
· Shared on-call for weekends (year-round) and weeknights (during the breeding season)
· Ability to work and communicate efficiently within a large team and fast paced environment to provide a high standard of veterinary care
· Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to breeding horses
A salary of between $120,000 and $140,00.00 is available, based on experience with additional out of hours pay, and cell phone, fully equipped work vehicle and laptop.
