Racing Australia

Racing Australia (RA) is the national body comprising Australia's eight State and Territory Principal Racing Authorities (PRAs) which regulate the Thoroughbred racing and breeding industry.

RA is responsible for providing integrated systems, services and products nationally to the PRAs, race clubs, owners, trainers, breeders, jockeys and racing enthusiasts, which helps ensure the effective operation of the industry.  RA is also responsible for the Australian Rules of Racing and the Rules of the Australian Stud Book, which govern Thoroughbred racing and breeding in Australia.

RA has offices in Melbourne and Sydney, as well as its own Equine Genetics Research Centre in the Hunter Valley.

The Role

Reporting directly to the General Counsel, RA is seeking the services of a full-time employee to deliver high quality customer service to industry participants who use the Trainer and Owner Reforms (TOR) dispute resolution service. The TOR scheme provides a mechanism which seeks to make it easier for trainers to pursue unpaid training fees, while giving owners the opportunity to dispute invoiced fees.

Working closely with the General Counsel, this role will expand over time and provide you with a great opportunity to develop your skills in regulatory and compliance work.

The position is based in RA’s office in the Sydney CBD (Druitt Street).

  • Liaising with trainers and owners in relation to fee disputes

  • Interpreting the rules and agreements which govern the TOR scheme
  • Providing support to the General Counsel in relation to TOR disputes, as well as other regulatory and compliance matters
  • Providing support in the day to day operations of RA’s Sydney office

The Successful Applicant

The Disputes Coordinator will be responsible for managing the TOR scheme on a day to day basis. This important function requires a self-motivated person who can effectively manage their own workflow and communicate well with industry participants and other racing authorities.

Key attributes include:

  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to follow processes and procedures
  • Excellent verbal and written communications, and listening, skills
  • Ability to understand and interpret rules and agreements
  • Ability to work autonomously under pressure and meet deadlines
