Description

Harness Racing SA (HRSA) is the governing body for harness racing in South Australia. We are responsible for regulating, developing and promoting harness racing throughout the state.

Opportunity

HRSA has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Stipendiary Steward with a strong racing background to fill the role of Chair of Stewards.

Reporting & Key responsibilities: Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer; the key responsibilities of the position are the:

  • Regulation of the integrity function of harness racing in South Australia
  • Overarching supervision and control of harness race meetings and trials.
  • Responsibility for the licensing of participants.
  • Management of investigations and inquiries into breaches of the Rules of Harness Racing;
  • Supervision of HRSA Integrity Department, including staff.
  • Implementation of Board Policy and direction.

The position will require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends and public holidays and some intrastate travel.

About you:

Key skills, experience, qualifications and attributes: The successful applicant will demonstrate the following skills/experience/qualifications/attributes:

  • Previous appointment as a Chair of Stewards/Senior Steward in the racing industry, together with an in-depth knowledge of the Rules of Harness Racing.
  • Previous experience in managing inquiries and investigations, together with representation at Appeal level.
  • Excellent knowledge of the racing industry.
  • An understanding of the principles of natural justice and procedural fairness.
  • Exemplary communication skills and the ability to interface with a diverse range of industry participants.
  • Well-developed time management, self-management and organisational skills.
  • Advanced perceptive and observational skills.
  • Sound written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to consult and resolve conflict.
  • The ability to accept and adapt to change.
  • Ability to maintain the highest levels of integrity and confidentiality.
  • A valid driver’s licence

Remuneration:

The successful applicant will be provided a remuneration package commensurate to their relevant experience.
