About the role

Reporting to the Starter and working across all four venues, the Casual Horse Float Driver / Barrier Attendant will work with the Starter to ensure that:

  • The Horse Float is driven to the appropriate venue as needed and is operated as required throughout the event
  • The Horse Float is driven back to the designated base after each event
  • The Horse Float is fully operational at all times and to report any problems immediately
  • Adhere to the operating procedures applicable to the role at race meetings and barrier trials
  • Assist in implementing relevant starting procedures at barrier trials and jump outs
  • Ensure that they are being safety conscious at all times including wearing the applicable safety equipment in their role/s
  • Willing to work as a casual barrier attendant at jumpouts, barrier trials and race meetings as rostered
  • Ensure that they are wearing the correct uniform at all times
  • Attend Racing NSW Stewards enquiries where required

ATC welcomes applications from individuals who meet the following criteria:

 Previous experience as a Barrier Attendant, Float Driver or similar role

  • Excellent driving skills and a satisfactory driving record and has a valid driver’s licence
  • Experience with towing and reversing trailers / horse floats
  • Experience with transporting horses
  • Excellent horse handling skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Knowledge of the thoroughbred racing industry – Racing Operations, WHS and the Rules of Racing

The availability to work as a casual barrier attendant at early morning jumpouts, barrier trials and racemeetings as rostered will be an advantage to an individual’s application.
