Assistant Foreperson/Stable Manager Position

Based at Flemington Racecourse, Kavanagh Racing is currently seeking a motivated and capable person to join our team. The role will be to assist in the day to day running of the stable. Proven experience and knowledge of training is essential.

We are looking for someone who has a passion for horses and the industry, has the ability to work in a team, takes pride in their job and has great attention to detail.

Successful candidates must be capable of managing staff, administering medications, overseeing horse welfare and possess great communication skills.

A heavy rigid truck license will also be looked upon favourably.

Your daily responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:

• Assist Mark, Levi and the senior foreperson in the day to day running of the stable
• Being able to recognise injury and lameness
• Assist in managing, organising and training staff
• Support team learning and maintaining a good team environment
• Attending some race days and barrier trials
• Assisting with veterinary treatments
• Maintaining veterinary records
• Accurate recording of horse movements and informing the office in a timely manner
• Knowledge of safe operation of all equipment and use of personal protective equipment relevant to a racing business
• Sound knowledge of health and safety obligations and demonstrated skills in safe operation of equipment relevant to the training and preparation of racehorses
